Frequently asked questions
Bandwidth, ports, roles, licenses, display: answers to common questions.
What Internet speed do you need?
Reemo works best at 10 Mbps, and remains usable starting at 2 Mbps. Maximum bandwidth can be adjusted on the fly during the session:
- Low: 2 Mbps or 5 Mbps
- Medium: 7 Mbps (default) or 10 Mbps
- High: 20 Mbps or 40 Mbps
- Ultra: 80 Mbps or 200 Mbps
How many screens does Reemo support?
As many as your bandwidth and hardware allow.
How to use a controller on Windows?
Install the ViGEm Bus driver on the remote computer (Reemo 1.9.0.0 or higher required). Then start a new session and press one or two buttons: the controller will appear on the remote computer. Test it on gamepad-tester.com.
Why is my screen black?
Reemo needs at least one monitor plugged in to capture the desktop. Without a monitor, use an HDMI or DisplayPort dummy plug connected to your GPU to simulate a display.
What ports does Reemo use?
- Signaling: TCP 443 to our signaling servers.
- Reemo service on the target computer: a random UDP port between 58200 and 58400.
- Browser: any UDP port.
Why does my performance drop behind a firewall?
If UDP packets are blocked, Reemo falls back to our relay (TURN) over TCP. TCP uses its own congestion control and sends packets in bursts, which can degrade smoothness. Prioritize UDP for the best performance.
Why is the image quality poor, even on High or Ultra?
This is often caused by an outdated GPU driver that handles dynamic bitrate poorly: update your drivers. Also verify that your connection can keep up with these settings, as congestion control reduces bitrate when significant packet loss occurs.
I duplicated my virtual machine, but only one appears
Delete the _id file from the Reemo folder on the cloned machine, then restart the Reemo service. This file must be unique for each computer.
What are the roles in Reemo?
| Role | Scope | Settings | Visible Organizations | License |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Instance Admin | Entire instance | Global settings (branding, security...) | All | None |
| Organization Admin | One organization | Organization level | Its own | 1 license |
| Group Admin | A group and its subgroups | Group management | Its group | 1 license |
| User | Assigned computers | None | None | If active with at least 1 computer |
Why am I stuck in relay mode?
Your device cannot establish a direct connection, often due to network issues. Disabling IPv6 on both the computer and the router frequently resolves the issue.
Does an administrator need a license?
No if they only manage the organization. Yes if they also connect to remote machines, like any other user.
A user is getting "Error 560"
A mandatory security requirement is not met, most commonly two-factor authentication (2FA) enforced by the organization but not yet configured by the user.
Restrict connections to working hours
Set up access schedules to define authorized time slots. If a user cannot connect, check their schedule.
Disable copy-paste and disconnect after inactivity
In the organization's security settings: disable the clipboard and configure the session inactivity timeout.
Convert an external user to a managed user
Direct conversion is not possible. First remove the external user (either by the user themselves or through Reemo support), then invite them again as a managed user.
An SSO user cannot sign in
Always test SSO (SAML) with an account that does not have the "Owner" role. The Owner account should not be linked to SSO, to ensure you do not get locked out of your organization.
Which URLs should be allowed on my firewall?
Reemo requires specific HTTPS URLs and network flows. The full matrix is available in our network guides.
Improve smoothness and exceed my screen resolution
- Performance: adjust the "Bandwidth / Quality" slider in the Reemo toolbar.
- Resolution: install the Reemo "Virtual Monitor" driver on the remote machine to create high-resolution virtual displays.
Are ultrawide resolutions (5120x1440) supported?
Yes, provided the remote OS supports them: configure them directly in its display settings. When using the Reemo virtual monitor, make sure to keep it updated.
3 remote screens, 2 local screens: how to choose?
Use the Virtual Monitor Driver in "Hybrid Mode": physical remote screens are disabled during the session, and you can choose the number of virtual screens to display.
Remote Mac: I can see the screen but mouse and keyboard do not respond
Grant the Reemo agent both Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions in macOS System Settings.
No sound on macOS
Prior to macOS 13 Ventura, install the BlackHole virtual audio driver on the remote Mac.
Is the "USB Companion" app available for macOS?
Not at this time.
Blue screen (BSOD) caused by "reemaudio.sys"
This is caused by an outdated audio driver: install the latest Reemo Audio Driver and remove the old one via Device Manager.
